Kosher Food

JDC provided kosher food for Orthodox displaced persons with special dietary requirements. JDC also provided special foods and other needed supplies to help camp residents celebrate holidays and observe Jewish traditions.

Jewish Holidays

Holidays held special meaning for children. Stories of deliverance-on Chanukah, Purim and Passover – satisfied a need to see the meek overcome the mighty. And they took comfort from the Exodus account, where Jews freed from slavery arrived in Israel after 40 years in the desert. Passage to Palestine carried biblical weight.
